제가 어렸을 때는 외국 곡들은 그냥 무조건 '팝송'이라는 단어로 통용됐었는데, (라고 써놓고 검색 사이트에서 팝송을 검색해 보고 왔습니다.) 지금도 팝송이라는 단어를 쓰고 있나 봅니다.

첫 번째 추천곡은 조지 벤슨^{George Benson}의 Turn Your Love Around입니다.

조지 벤슨은 재즈 기타리스트로 유명하지만, 1970년대 중반부터는 기타 연주와 함께 보컬을 병행하며 팝과 R&B 차트에서도 큰 성공을 거두었습니다.

처음에 추천한 Turn Your Love Around는 변심한 연인이 다시 예전처럼 돌아오길 바라는 내용이었던 반면, You And I는 두 사람(You And I)이 함께 사랑을 나누고 꿈을 만들어나가며 영원히 함께할 것이라는 내용의 곡입니다.

마지막 추천곡은 카일리 미노그^{Kylie Minogue}와 제이슨 도노반^{Jason Donovan}이 함께 부른 듀엣곡 Especially For You입니다.

이 곡도 위에서 소개한 You And I처럼 희망으로 가득 찬 러브러브한 느낌의 듀엣곡입니다.

Especially For You는 1988년 11월에 발매되었습니다.

Especially For You 이 곡에는 개인적인 추억이 있습니다.

이 곡을 어떤 계기로 알게 된 건지 정확히 기억나지 않지만, 어쨌든 10대 후반부터 이 곡을 알게 됐고, 듣기 시작했습니다.

너무 마음에 들었던 곡이라 당시의 국산 소셜미디어 사이트였던 싸이월드의 배경음악으로도 걸어놨었죠.

20대 초반에 광주의 충장로에 '비틀즈'라는 (음악감상실 겸) 카페가 있었습니다.

지금은 흔적도 없이 사라진 장소지만, '비틀즈'라고 이름이 바뀌기 전에는 '메탈리카'라는 이름으로 음악감상실 겸 카페 겸 밴드의 공연 장소로도 활용됐던.. 메탈리카 시절에는 꽤 HOT했었던 장소였습니다.

그런데 우연히 그 '비틀즈' 앞을 지나다가 DJ를 구한다고 구인광고가 붙어있는 것을 보게 됐습니다.

여러 장르의 음악을 좋아하는 저에게 딱 맞는 일이라는 생각이 들어서 바로 방문했습니다.

들어갔을 때 처음 봤던 분이 누구였는지 기억나지 않지만, 'DJ를 구한다고 해서 왔다'고 말하자 마침 일하는 중이었던 선배 DJ를 불러왔는데, 그 DJ는 고3때 언젠가 비틀즈를 손님으로 찾아갔을 때 당시에 DJ를 하고 있었던 누나였습니다.

저는 그 누나의 얼굴을 기억하고 있지만, 그 누나에게는 제가 초면이었던 상황.

그 누나에게 면접 아닌 간단한 면접을 보고 바로 통과하게 돼서 비틀즈에서 일을 하게 됐습니다.

그 누나는 선배라고 텃새를 부리거나 그런 거 전혀 없이 저랑 친하게 지내면서 일도 쉽게 적응할 수 있도록 많이 도와줬었습니다.

이 누나를 이제부터 S누나라고 하겠습니다.

이미 채용(?)이 된 상태에서 일을 시작하고는 있었지만, 어느 날 비틀즈의 실세(?)였던 비틀즈 사장님의 여자친구분께서 저의 선곡 센스를 보겠다며, 제가 DJ를 하는 시간대에 와서 들어보겠다고 미리 예고를 했었습니다.

뭔가 오디션을 보는 기분이라 약간 긴장을 하면서 어떤 곡들을 선곡해야 하나 고민하는 나에게 S누나가 저의 싸이월드 미니홈피 BGM에 Especially For You가 있는 걸 듣고는 깜짝 놀라면서 너도 이곡 좋아하냐고, 사장 여친 언니도 이곡 좋아한다고, 이거 틀라고 했었던 기억이 나네요.

사장 여친 누님은 예고한 대로 제가 DJ를 하는 시간대에 오셨고, 저는 이런저런 곡들을 틀다가 너무 티나게 마지막 곡으로 Especially For You를 틀었습니다.. ㅋㅋ

그러니까 사장 여친 누님이 웃으면서 "S가 내가 이거 좋아한다고 알려준 거네~" 하셔서, 저는 억울해 하면서 "그건 맞는데 저도 좋아하는 곡이예요!" 이랬었던..

어쨌든 저는 개인적으로 Especially For You를 들으면 그 에피소드와 함께 10대 후반과 20대 초반 때의 기억이 되살아납니다.

뭔가 쓸데없는 TMI가 길어졌지만.. 길게 쓴 글 지우기는 뭐하니까 이대로 올리는 걸로..
